When these job interviews went downhill fast, a few candidates didn’t bother seeing it through to the end. Instead, they just left! We have free will to do so, but not all of us have the fortitude to leave our bad interviewers with their jaws hanging open in shock.
I would never walk out of a bad interview, because if I stuck around, I’d have an incredible story to tell my friends about what a failure the conversation was. However, time is valuable, and I wouldn’t blame anyone who leaves an interview for wasting that precious resource. Sometimes you can just tell that the boss is a little too wacky for your liking, or that the office has a revolving door of employees, meaning you won’t be staying for long, either. So why bother waiting until the end of a long interview if you know you’ll be emailing them a rejection by the end of the day anyway?
One person left after waiting 30 minutes for the hiring manager to show up to the interview. Why? They explained that if they had to wait that long at a preliminary interview, they could expect that type of treatment all the time while working for that person. It’s a prime example of refusing to be treated poorly just to get or keep a job! And they’re not the only one who surprised an interviewer by calling out unprofessional behaviors, as you can read all about down below.
