How should the mother handle this situation moving forward? We think she should reach out to the parents and be transparent about why she feels that the way they handled this was unfair. There is a decent way to go about this. She can tell the parents that while she is so happy that her daughter was invited and ended up having a great experience, she wishes that she had been made aware of the full extent of the agreement. 

Now, thankfully, the mother acknowledged that she can pay the difference and it won’t break the bank. However, even if she does follow through and pay the family, she should still let them know how she felt about the invoice. They should know better next time!
