Even still, he ranks fourth in FBS with 1,372 rushing yards and has set the Notre Dame single-season record for TDs in a season with 21. He has now passed Jerome Bettis in that category (20 in 1991).
2. Diego Pavia, QB, Vanderbilt: +1000
Vanderbilt and QB Diego Pavia are on the bubble of the College Football Playoff.
What to know: Two weeks ago, Pavia led Vandy to its first win against Tennessee since 2018, taking the Vols down 45-24. It wasn’t his best game, completing 18 of 28 passes for 268 yards, one TD and two INTs, but he added a whopping 165 on the ground along with a rushing TD. He’s third in FBS in both total offense with 4,018 yards and TDs with 36. He shot up the board after Julian Sayin lost to Indiana.
1. Fernando Mendoza, QB, Indiana: -2000
Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza has led the Hoosiers to a perfect 13-0 record.
What to know: A near lock to win the award now, Mendoza cemented his Heisman case after taking down Ohio State in the Big Ten title game. Mendoza would be the first player in Hoosiers history to win the Heisman Trophy.
