The author’s parents had been empty nesters for years now, yet they still seemed far too attached to their children, both of whom are in their mid-to-late thirties. As for the author, he was disappointed to learn that his parents were not thrilled about this offer. He was even more upset when they suggested he apply to local positions in his hometown for which he was overqualified. These positions all paid less than his previous job as well.

This kind of failure on the part of the author’s parents to see how they were coming from a self-centered place just goes to show that it’s about time that this 35-year-old man detach himself from their overprotectiveness. In fact, there is no better way to do this than to take the job and move far away from them. We wish him the best of luck as he makes this change that seems to be a long time in the making.
