We all have something in common with James Cameron: being obsessed with KPop Demon Hunters. When discussing the importance of making cinema for the big screen, he worries about the act of going to the movies as we know it, coincidentally just before the Netflix and Warner Bros merger was announced. But he did have to admit that he “did like Kpop Demon Hunters” before sharing his concerns on distribution. “You see more and more people just settling for the habit of watching things as it comes to them on their streaming service,” he told Empire Magazine at the European premiere of Avatar: Fire and Ash. “I’m concerned that cinema may cease to exist … and I don’t want that to happen. I want to continue to make the films that I like to see on the big screen.”
As the screening was about to begin, the Avatar director and ocean explorer emphasized the importance of watching movies in a theater and how Paris, where the premiere was held, celebrates this tradition. “We need to honor the nation that has more cinephiles per capita than any other country in the world; The thing that I love about France is that in this country, it is a moral obligation to support the arts,” Cameron shared on stage, Variety reports. I wonder if once he comes back to the States, he’ll tell the American cinephiles that together they are golden when they go to the movies together.
