Everything in life happens for a reason… Now, whether or not you believe this to be true is one thing, but it’s the way that this belief sets things into motion that is important. I’ve never really liked the saying much myself, as I’m not actually sure I can convince myself that some of the things that happened to loved ones happened for any reason at all, beyond the randomness and horror of chance, entropy, and disorder.

But accepting “everything in life happens for a reason” or simply pretending to yourself that it must be true changes one simple thing: You always find the will to keep moving forward. IF you truly believe that what has happened is destined to you, it will help you recognize that your own strength and your own learnings, all those little things you have picked up along the way, are guiding you on your path. Where that path leads is uncertain, but as you feel like you’re fumbling around, experiencing the story as it is writing itself, it is comforting to know that you have the support of everything that happened before this moment.

Sure, this is one way to turn reality into a fantasy, and you might say that it’s just that. The skeptics might be scoffing at the idea of turning your real life into a story, and there are probably more than one psychiatric professional out there ready to declare that this is merely a coping mechanism for trauma. But when you’re going through tough periods in your life, I have found, it’s a great way to note and appreciate the positives, give them a permanent place in your mind, and reframe the negatives with a positive spin.

Plus, professionally it helps loads with that pesky imposter syndrome that is always lurking around some corner in your mind when you’re handling an important task, when it rears up, you can challenge it with all that you have accomplished and wrestle it back into the dark cracks and recesses of your mind where it belongs with fear and doubt.

Of course, all this wasn’t clear to this employee when they were unjustly fired five days before Christmas by their nepobaby boss who had recently inhereted the company from his father. They had worked for the company for eight long years before this but were unceremoniously fired all the same. Everything came to pass as it should, as they found themself on a path that led them to a much better place in their career than they had been on trajectory for beforehand. They learned later that the company had gone bankrupt due to the son’s mismanagement, meaning that everything had ended up as it should.
