This fella is very fixated on his coworker’s feelings, which he may just be projecting onto her. Things are only really awkward if you make them that way. If you just play it cool and let it blow over, it’ll be fine. And, as other people noted, I probably wouldn’t bring it up again. He’d come off as the office weirdo if he kept harping on about how sorry he is for his wife’s exclusionary move. Plus, the implications of why she left out the coworker are probably awkward enough… no need to bring that into the workspace if he can help it.
