Everyone is talking about Mad Men, not just because of how brilliant it is, but due to a few significant mishaps with the show’s recent arrival on HBO Max.
For context, all seven seasons of the Emmy-winning show have been remastered in 4K quality, so the episodes look better than ever before in their new home on HBO Max. However, this exciting process required some of the post-production work to be redone, and it seems a few details were overlooked.
Mad Men only arrived on HBO Max on Monday, and within a day, viewers had already spotted several mistakes, from mistitled episodes to unedited signs in the background.
However, the most glaring post-production error is in Season 1, Episode 7, where, during a scene in which Roger Sterling vomits after one of his many boozy lunches, crew members can clearly be seen operating a barf machine in the shot.
The vomit machine mishap — initially highlighted by X user @bigrackspart7 — has gone incredibly viral, to the point where one of the show’s cast members has now chimed in.
On Tuesday, January Jones, who, of course, starred on the show as Betty Draper, posted a screenshot on her Instagram story poking fun at the debacle. “Glad our amazing crew got to be featured though,” she joked.
Now, if you were getting excited about the prospect of tuning into the pilot and trying to spot more post-production mistakes, then I fear you may have missed your opportunity. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the mishaps appeared on the streaming service because Lionsgate delivered the wrong 4K file to HBO Max, but they are in the process of rectifying the issue. Bye-bye, barf machine.
Regardless, I think it’s about time for a Mad Men rewatch. Who’s joining me?
