All Rides are a Lie,

Rewritten in a provocative and controversial manner:

"Cloud computing is on the brink of complete chaos, with 50% of enterprises predicted to adopt industry-specific cloud platforms by 2028. And yet, many businesses are still stuck in their traditional ways, slow to adapt and even slower to evolve. The hype surrounding cloud migration is suffocating, with too many organisations making unrealistic promises and half-baked decisions."

"Gopalan, a senior figure at NTT Data, dismisses the notion of a seamless lift-and-shift strategy, suggesting that businesses should first conduct an infrastructure assessment to gauge their true needs. ‘There are a lot of features and functionalities available in public clouds, but do you really need it?’ he asks, tongue-in-cheek. ‘Are you going to tick the box just because everyone else is doing it?’ Gopalan recommends a more bespoke approach, highlighting the importance of understanding specific workloads and applications before committing to cloud adoption."

"But what about cloud-native strategies, you ask? Gene De Souza, Red Hat’s regional cloud leader, cautions against the temptation to simply containerize applications without proper consideration. ‘The user experience must be consistent,’ he emphasizes. ‘Containers are cool, but you can’t just create them willy-nilly without understanding the underlying architecture.’"

"It’s not just the tech that’s problematic – the lack of transparency and communication around cloud migration is stifling innovation. Seelan Govender, director at Synthesis Software, rages against the ‘cookie-cutter’ approach to cloud, arguing that every business has unique requirements and should approach migration with a tailor-made strategy."

"Gopalan is blunt in his assessment: ‘Certifications are not skills.’ Effective cloud migration requires a long-term commitment and significant investment in employee training and education. It’s a myth that converting on-premises engineers to the cloud will suddenly unlock magic – it’s hard work, plain and simple. You can’t just wing it."

"But hey, maybe that’s exactly what the hyperscalers want: chaos and confusion. After all, they’re the ones peddling their ‘one-size-fits-all’ solutions to unsuspecting businesses. Gopalan is adamant that enterprises should resist the urge to blindly follow suit and instead learn from real-world experiences, partnering with reliable, locally-based cloud providers to build robust, cloud-based architectures. Because when it comes down to it, only one thing is certain: the road to cloud adoption is paved with pitfalls, and those who fail to heed the warning signs will face a precipitous drop-off."
