70-YEAR-OLD SUPERMARKET WORKER ALLEGEDLY GRABS COWORKER, BLAMES HER—THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED NEXT
A 70-year-old man was ARRESTED IN THE ACT Friday afternoon. Not in a shadowy alley, but in a crowded supermarket in Belo Horizonte’s Buritis neighborhood. Police say he sexually assaulted his 32-year-old coworker, cashier Talita Rocha, IN FRONT OF CUSTOMERS AND STAFF.
“He started grabbing me, he grabbed my private parts, front and back, and tried to kiss me,” the victim stated in her police report. “I asked him to let me go, but he kept insisting.” This wasn’t just harassment. This was a brutal physical assault at her workplace.
The suspect’s defense? He denied everything. He claimed, WITHOUT A SHRED OF EVIDENCE, that the victim “provoked” him. Police and a witness IMMEDIATELY DISMISSED his story. He was taken to jail. A protective order was issued for Talita.
But this attack ripped open old wounds. “I had a panic attack,” Talita revealed. “I am treated for depression and anxiety, and I have suffered sexual abuse in the past. This triggered everything again.”
Where was the supermarket chain Epa? SILENCE. We reached out for comment. They did not respond. We contacted the suspect’s lawyer and Civil Police. MORE SILENCE. This is the pattern: an alleged predator acts, a victim’s trauma is reignited, and the systems around them go quiet.
A woman is assaulted at her job, and the only person held accountable so far is the one in handcuffs. A workplace failed to prevent this. A man in his 70s decided his coworker was an object.
This is what everyday danger looks like.
