Once the manager announced her departure, it became clear to her employees that she made this decision to protect them. Within the next day, the vast majority of the manager’s former employees submitted their resignation letters as well.
The author explained that she wanted to do the same but was hesitant because of her financial predicament. After all, not everyone can afford to just quit on the spot. Still, she felt like as soon as she was able to do so, she would follow suit and resign.
The manager reached out to the author and provided her with support, pledging to help her get hired somewhere else if she felt comfortable taking the risk and quitting. That ended up being the push the author needed to take the plunge.
After her resignation, there was literally no one else left to pick up shifts. Additionally, corporate was going to have a lot of trouble finding folks who were willing to accept these poor working conditions… especially without a good manager who would have their backs.
