If there’s one thing Hollywood loves, it’s making fun of itself, and it was never more apparent than in Seth Rogen’s The Studio. The show follows Matt Remick (Rogen), the new head of a studio who just really wants to make good movies. But, right now, Hollywood is obsessed with remakes, IP-driven films, and more. Sound familiar? Understandably, this show is probably so good if you’re in on the joke. If you’re someone who lives for TV and movies, reads Variety daily, and/or works in the industry. But that being said, The Studio has brought together some of the funniest comedians working today, which is why it’s one of the best comedies of the year.
Alongside Rogen, Catherine O’Hara, Ike Barinholtz, Chase Sui Wonders, and Kathryn Hahn deliver some of their funniest performances to date. Simply put, they are hysterical in every episode. Add in Bryan Cranston, Zoë Kravitz, Dave Franco, and more, and you’ve got an ensemble that is firing on all cylinders. And we haven’t even mentioned the line-up of actors who pop in to play themselves. The Studio came in to make fun of the film system at the right possible moment, and I ate it up.
