To quote the eternal Tiffany “New York” Pollard: “Beyoncé? Beyoncé?!” Yes, that Beyoncé is co-chairing this year’s Met Gala, Vogue announced on December 10. She’s joined by Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and, of course, Anna Wintour. Beyoncé has attended the Met Gala seven times previously, five of those as the guest of Givenchy. Her last attendance was in 2016, for “Manus x Machina,” when she wore a dress that famously looked like it was covered in pimples. But her most well-known Met Gala appearance was in 2014, which ended in Solange beating up Jay-Z in an elevator. What’s going to happen when there’s over a billion dollars in this year’s elevator?
The 2026 Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Exhibit theme is “Costume Art,” exploring the relationship between clothing and the wearer. The “host committee,” Vogue confirmed, will be co-chaired by Saint Laurent creative director Anthony Vaccarello and Zoë Kravitz. It otherwise includes Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, Gwendoline Christie, Alex Consani, Misty Copeland, Elizabeth Debicki, Lena Dunham, Paloma Elsesser, Lisa, Chloe Malle, Sam Smith, Teyana Taylor, Lauren Wasser, Anna Weyant, A’ja Wilson, and Yseult. More hosts will be confirmed later — if the Met was having any issues getting people before, dangling the opportunity to meet Beyoncé in front of them is a good incentive.
