A KNOWN MONSTER NEARLY KILLED A CHILD—AND THE SYSTEM LET HIM ROAM FREE. This is the horrifying truth behind the kidnapping and torture of an 11-year-old boy in Flagler County, an attack so brutal it shocks the conscience.
Registered sex offender Darnell Hairston, 60, is now facing charges for kidnapping, strangling, and binding a child for three days of forced drinking and drug use. But this wasn’t random. Sheriff Rick Staly says it was a CALCULATED PLOT. Hairston and a 15-year-old accomplice, Junior Bishop, lured the boy to a remote campsite because they believed he had information that could send Hairston back to prison.
The evidence is in the police report and body camera footage. The boy was choked unconscious, his mouth taped, his body tied with shoelaces and cords. He was fed alcohol and marijuana. When Hairston was pulled over, the victim whispered he believed he was going to be killed. The body cam shows Hairston’s desperate fight, trying to GRAB A DEPUTY’S GUN before being tackled. Bishop then stole Hairston’s truck, nearly running over an officer.
Ask yourself: WHY was a violent predator with a known history free to fix ATVs where children gathered? A TIP from a bystander is the only reason this boy is alive. “We all believed he was going to die that night,” Sheriff Staly admitted.
Hairston now sits in jail without bond, but the 15-year-old accomplice isn’t talking. The silence is deafening. This is what happens when monsters slip through the cracks—they recruit the next generation and children pay the price.
The real crime is that we wait for a body to drop before we act.
