Jimmy Kimmel Live’s coming back, but in less stressful circumstances. ABC renewed Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night contract through May 2027, reports Bloomberg; his previous contract with the network ran through May 2026. Reportedly, the deal is not public, but Kimmel did share the news with his staff. Kimmel and Disney allegedly agreed months ago to extend their contract, but have not made a formal announcement out of respect for Stephen Colbert, whose late-night show with CBS was not renewed.
The road that led to another year of Kimmel has been a rough one. In September of this year, Disney and ABC put JKL on an “indefinite” hiatus after a negative backlash on how Kimmel discussed the murder of conservative podcaster Charlie Kirk. After a week off the air and a boycott, Disney eventually brought the show back, even as Nexstar and Sinclair, companies that own hundreds of local ABC affiliate stations, decided to keep the program off their stations for a little longer — both eventually brought the show back four days later. And now, Disney’s bringing back Kimmel for another year. Cheers!
