After being told clearly that this was not welcome, he went cold and began telling other neighbors she had humiliated him for trying to help. The audacity of that reframe is almost impressive. He inserted himself into her project, spoke over her to her own contractors, implied she could not handle things alone, and is now the wounded party.

He was very helpful. She is very fine without it.
