We…worked on this story for four years…and…HBO just…they tweeted it out. Well, really it was a press conference. Sam Levinson really laid out the set-up for Euphoria season 3 at a HBO Max presentation in London Wednesday. Rue is in Mexico, Cassie is stuck in the suburbs, and Maddy is in I Love LA. Also, do we hear wedding bells? “I will say that Cassie and Nate do in fact get married. I’m confirming it,” Levinson said, per Variety. “And I promise that it will be an unforgettable night.”
Euphoria season 3 takes place five years after the events of season 2. “Five years felt like a natural place because if they’d gone to college they’d be out of college at that time,” Levinson said. So this is the St. Elmo’s Fire to seasons 1 and 2’s Breakfast Club. He also gave very specific Where Are They Now clues for Rue (Zendaya), Jules (Hunter Schafer), Cassie (Sydney Sweeney), Nate (Jacob Elordi), Maddy (Alexa Demie), and Lexi (Maude Apatow). “We basically pick up Rue south of the border in Mexico, in debt to Laurie, trying to come up with some very innovative ways to pay it off,” Levinson said. Jules is in art school for painting, and both Lexi and Maddy are in Hollywood. “Maddy is working in Hollywood at a talent agency for a manager, she’s obviously got her own side hustles going,” he said. And Lexi is an assistant to a showrunner played by Sharon Stone, who is just absolutely delightful and a true icon.”
But the big surprise is that Nate and Cassie are still a thing. Feels unwise! “Cassie is living in the suburbs with Nate,” Levinson said. “They’re engaged, and she’s very addicted to social media and envious of what appears to be the big lives that all of her high school classmates are living at this point in time.” Presumably Cassie and Nate’s wedding will be where all these separate plotlines converge in one big fucked up high school reunion. Will Lexi be a bridesmaid? Will Maddy? JK. We’ll find out when Euphoria comes to HBO April 2026.
