Regretting You, starring Allison Williams, Mckenna Grace, and Dave Franco, premiered in theaters on October 24.

Inspired by Thomas Pynchon’s 1990 postmodern novel, Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another is the auteur’s second adaptation of Pynchon’s work, following 2014’s Inherent Vice. When Zoyd Wheeler’s teenage daughter goes missing, he reconnects with the revolutionary members of his past to track her down. While PTA’s film is set in the present day, Pynchon’s plot takes place in 1984 and unfolds with 1960s flashbacks to chronicle the political and social movements of the era.

One Battle After Another, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, and Benicio del Toro, premiered in theaters on September 26.

Lionel and David are students at the Boston Music Conservatory who become fast friends over their shared love of folk music. When the First World War breaks out, their studies are scuppered. The pair end up reconnecting to embark on a journey soundtracked by the music of their fellow countrymen. They walk through the Maine woods in the summer of 1920, recording folk songs as they grow closer.

The History of Sound, starring Paul Mescal, Josh O’Connor, and Chris Cooper, premiered in theaters on September 12.

In a quiet U.K. retirement village, four pensioner friends and amateur sleuths — a former spy, nurse, psychiatrist, and union official — make up the Thursday Murder Club. They meet every week to crack unsolved crimes. The murders get a bit too close to home when a local property developer is killed and a puzzling photograph is left beside the body. As more bodies are found, the unofficial detectives must take matters into their own hands before another life is taken.

The Thursday Murder Club, starring Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, and Ben Kingsley, is streaming on Netflix.

The Life of Chuck, a novella originally published in Stephen King’s 2020 collection If It Bleeds, is the story of Charles Krantz told in three chapters, in reverse chronological order, from his death to his childhood. The first act begins with Chuck at the end of his life in a world plagued by natural disasters. Act two sees him as a middle-aged man who is the sort of person who will stop to dance on the sidewalk as a busker plays. Finally, the last act sees Chuck’s childhood play out in a house afflicted by a dark secret.

The Life of Chuck, starring Tom Hiddleston, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Karen Gillan, came out in theaters on June 6.

Set in the mythical Viking village of Berk, the awkward son of Chief Stoick the Vast, Hiccup, dreams of being an admired dragon slayer. However, when he comes face-to-face with a rare Night Fury dragon, he is unable to kill the so-called beast. Instead, he forms a forbidden bond with the dragon, whom he names Toothless because of his retractable teeth. In defying the Viking-dragon conflict, Hiccup sees a different side to dragons that puts everything he knew into question.

How to Train Your Dragon, starring Mason Thames, Nico Parker, and Gerard Butler, came out in theaters on June 11.

Thunderbolts sees a group of anti-heroes from across the Marvel universe forced to team up when they are ensnared in an evil trap by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. The ragtag gang consists of Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, Ghost, Red Guardian, Taskmaster, and John Walker. The dysfunctional group members must learn to work together to defeat a collective evil before they tear themselves apart. As Taylor Swift once sang, it must be exhausting always rooting for the anti-hero.

Thunderbolts*, starring Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, and David Harbour, came out in theaters on May 2.

Following the adaptation of Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret, Forever is the next Judy Blume classic to make its way to screens. While the original novel was set in 1970s New Jersey, the Netflix show will take place in 2018 in Los Angeles. This reimagining of Blume’s story of first love follows two teen athletes, Keisha and Justin, as they experience a series of firsts together: their first kiss, their first time having sex, and their first “‘I love you.” However, these are not just fleeting firsts; the pair must understand how deeply these events will resonate throughout their lives.

Mysterious wellness guru Masha Dmitrichenko is back to lure another group of nine privileged strangers into a remote health resort for questionable treatment. Season one, set in California, saw Masha use unconventional methods, including drugging their meals, to prompt breakthroughs. This new season, moving away from Moriarty’s novel, will unfold in the Austrian Alps, where participants will subject themselves to a healing retreat of mindfulness, meditation, and “real work” that is bound to uncover dark secrets that may be better off buried.

Nine Perfect Strangers, starring Nicole Kidman, Murray Bartlett, and Annie Murphy, premiered on Hulu on May 21.

After eight years, Hulu’s adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s dystopian novel is coming to an end. The Handmaid’s Tale has followed the increasingly devastating Gilead regime, where fertile people are forced into child-bearing slavery. The latest season, which has diverged from the book’s narrative, followed former handmaid June adapting to life as a Canadian refugee while grappling with her role in the Gilead resistance. Meanwhile, Serena, the woman once married to June’s commander, is now a pregnant widow. June and Serena came face to face in the series-five finale, setting up an interesting dynamic of opposing forces that will surely be explosive in the final season.

The sixth and final season of The Handmaid’s Tale, starring Elisabeth Moss, Joseph Fiennes, and Yvonne Strahovski, premiered on Hulu on April 8.

The bright lights of Las Vegas lure Julius, and he begins working at a casino, where he falls in love with a card cheat named Henry. Meanwhile, Muriel starts to slip away to the racetrack, where she gambles on horses and develops an intense connection with her neighbor, Sandra.

On Swift Horses, starring Daisy Edgar-Jones, Jacob Elordi, and Diego Calva, was released on April 25.

When Nicholas was 12, his dad abandoned their family, declaring that God had commanded him to be a painter. As a child, Isabel witnesses her brother have a seizure that leaves him mute, and she continues to blame herself for the event into adulthood. The day after Isabel’s wedding, Nicholas and Isabel have a chance encounter, and it’s as if their souls are intertwined. As Nicholas seeks out his father’s last surviving painting and Isabel navigates being married to a man she does not love, the pair must decide whether following their hearts is worth the sacrifice.

Four Letters of Love, starring Pierce Brosnan, Helena Bonham Carter, and Gabriel Byrne, came out in theaters on April 25.

Mickey Barnes, desperate to leave Earth, agrees to be a disposable clone worker on an expedition to colonize the planet Niflheim. Whenever the crew faces a deadly mission, they call upon Mickey. Each time his cloned self dies fulfilling one of these tasks, a new body regenerates with the same memories. However, when one clone is presumed dead and a new version is generated, the two expendable clones’ existence overlaps, causing an existential rift in Mickey’s universe.

Mickey 17, starring Robert Pattinson, Naomi Ackie, and Steven Yeun, came out in theaters on March 7.

The Electric State, starring Millie Bobby Brown, Chris Pratt, and Ke Huy Quan, premiered on Netflix on March 14.

Two Philadelphia friends, Ray and Manny, pose as federal narcotics officers to steal from houses. Their robberies grow into a bustling enterprise as they loot small-time dealers, stealing money and drugs. However, their scheme is threatened when one hit turns out to be a huge narcotics operation. This mark has the means and resources to come after them and won’t give up until they retrieve what was stolen.

Dope Thief, starring Brian Tyree Henry, Wagner Moura, and Marin Ireland, premiered on Apple TV+ on March 14.

Snow White is set to grace our screens as a live-action reimagining of the 1937 Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs animated film, itself based on the Brothers Grimm fairy tale. This 2025 Snow White endeavours to modernize the classic tale of a wicked queen cursing Snow White to fall into a slumber that she can only be woken from by true love’s kiss. In this new iteration, it’s the plucky heroine who chooses her destiny.

Snow White, starring Rachel Zegler, Andrew Burnap, and Gal Gadot, came out in theaters on March 21.

My Fault: London, starring Asha Banks, Matthew Broome, and Ray Fearon, premiered on Prime Video on February 13.

British icon Bridget Jones returns for another shot at romance. Now 51, a lot has changed in Bridget’s life: She’s a widow after the death of Mark Darcy, a single mom to two children, she’s swapped cigarettes for nicotine gum, and she’s now ready to date again. With the support of her friends and former lover Daniel, she joins dating apps. However, she wasn’t prepared to, once again, have two potential love interests, a man 20 years younger and the other her son’s teacher.

Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, starring Renée Zellweger, Hugh Grant, and Leo Woodall, premiered on Peacock on February 14.

Brave New World marks the fourth Captain America film and a continuation of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier miniseries. Thaddeus Ross is elected the president of the United States and Sam Wilson (the new Captain America) is summoned to a meeting with him. After their gathering, Sam finds himself entangled in an international incident threatening the planet.

Captain America: Brave New World, starring Anthony Mackie, Danny Ramirez, and Shira Haas, came out in theaters on February 14.

Twin brothers Bill and Hal are clearing the attic of their childhood home when they find their father’s old, cymbal-banging monkey toy. Hal begins to see a pattern: Every time the monkey claps its cymbals, a death occurs. The brothers decide to throw away the toy, but years later, when the siblings have grown apart, the wind-up monkey reappears with its cursed cymbals, bringing death and tragedy to all who witness the creature’s dead-eyed stare and creepy smile.

The Monkey, starring Theo James, Tatiana Maslany, and Elijah Wood, came out in theaters on February 21.

Lockerbie: A Search for Truth, starring Colin Firth, Catherine McCormack, and Sam Troughton, debuted on Peacock on January 2.

The Mayfair Witches follows neurosurgeon Dr. Rowan Fielding’s discovery that she is the heiress of a dynasty of powerful witches. The second season of Rice’s series sees Rowan, the queen of the coven, come to terms with the fact that she birthed the demon Lasher, an evil spirit that has haunted the witches for generations. Rowan sets out to discover what Lasher has become and whether she can use her healing powers to turn him from monster to human.

Season two of Mayfair Witches, starring Alexandra Daddario, Tongayi Chirisa, and Jack Huston, returned to AMC on January 5.

The fifth installment of All Creatures Great & Small reunites the Skeldale House family as World War II rages on. After season four saw James training to be an RAF pilot and Tristan serving in the Royal Veterinary Corps, this new season sees the two men finally return to Darrowby. However, the quiet peace of the town will take some adjustment with James’ new baby-raising responsibilities.

Season five of All Creatures Great & Small, starring Samuel West, Anna Madeley, and Nicholas Ralph, came to PBS on January 12.

FBI agent Peter Sutherland monitors an emergency phone line in the White House Situation Room, but when that phone rings, his past becomes entwined with conspiracies in the present. Season one ended as Peter’s relationship with former tech CEO Rose Larkin blossomed and he earned a space in the secretive Night Agent program after saving the president from assassination. The second season will see Peter depart for his next assignment at the Joint Base Andrews military facility with new danger just around the corner.

Season two of The Night Agent, starring Gabriel Basso, Luciane Buchanan, and Fola Evans-Akingbola, debuted on Netflix on January 23.

Inspired by Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes stories, the sidekick gets the spotlight in Watson. This retelling is a medical drama with detective elements, following Dr. John Watson as he opens his Pittsburgh medical practice, Holmes Clinic. However, just as he begins to treat his patients, Watson’s past begins to haunt him when evidence comes to light that Moriarty may still be alive.

Watson, starring Morris Chestnut, Eve Harlow, and Peter Mark Kendall, premiered on CBS on January 26.
