The Life of Chuck, a novella originally published in Stephen King’s 2020 collection If It Bleeds, is the story of Charles Krantz told in three chapters, in reverse chronological order, from his death to his childhood. The first act begins with Chuck at the end of his life in a world plagued by natural disasters. Act two sees him as a middle-aged man who is the sort of person who will stop to dance on the sidewalk as a busker plays. Finally, the last act sees Chuck’s childhood play out in a house afflicted by a dark secret.
