SCAM ARTISTS POSING AS PUBLIC DEFENDERS TARGET VULNERABLE FAMILIES IN SHOCKING WHATSAPP PLOT
Imagine getting a message from a “public defender” saying you have money coming to you. It’s a LIE. It’s a CRIME WAVE. Criminals in Acre are now STEALING the identity of real government defense lawyers to ROB the poor and desperate.
They’re not hiding. They’re BRAZEN. As confirmed by the Public Defender’s Office (DPE-AC) to g1, these fakes use OFFICIAL LOGOS, real case numbers, and legal jargon in WhatsApp messages to seem legitimate. They target people who already have real cases—people at their most vulnerable. They demand advance payments and sensitive personal data for services that are, and always have been, 100% FREE.
The office’s head, Roberta de Paula Caminha Melo, delivered a furious warning: “Criminals are improperly using the name, image, and even photos of public defenders to apply scams.” She confirms they’ve reported this to the Secretary of Justice and Public Security, but the silence is DEAFENING. Where is the crackdown?
This is not an isolated incident. It’s a PATTERN. Police are already investigating a scammer pretending to be a DELEGATE to rob restaurants. Another tried to scam a city hall DEVASTATED by historic floods. While these reports pile up, authorities admit they have NO OFFICIAL COUNT of victims. Why not? Because the system is FAILING to track this crisis.
They give simple advice: Never pay. Never share bank details. Always go in person. But this is a digital-age EPIDEMIC, made worse by AI tools that make frauds terrifyingly convincing. With 464 virtual fraud cases already in Acre, who’s NEXT?
ONE DISTURBING QUESTION REMAINS: HOW MANY MORE HAVE BEEN ROBBED BEFORE ANYONE IN POWER NOTICES?
