X’s AI Chatbot Still Spewing Lies, Forces Users to Visit Official Website
In a move that’s sure to be met with eye-rolling from critics, X’s artificial intelligence chatbot Grok has been "updated" to steer users towards the official Vote.gov website when they ask election-related questions – a clear admission that its previous responses were riddled with inaccuracies.
But don’t just take our word for it. Five secretaries of state from Minnesota, New Mexico, Michigan, Washington, and Pennsylvania had to step in and warn X about Grok’s election misinformation debacle. The chatbot had previously provided false information about ballot deadlines in these states, which was then spread to millions of people before being corrected.
The fact that X allowed this to happen in the first place is a slap in the face to democracy. And now, instead of taking responsibility for its mistakes, X is simply pointing users towards the official Vote.gov website, as if that’s somehow a solution to the problem.
Make no mistake, this is a company that’s more interested in pushing its own agenda than in being a responsible player in the election ecosystem. And by allowing Grok to continue spreading misinformation, X is contributing to the very real threats of election disinformation and voter suppression.
The secretaries of state who brought this to light are right to be concerned. "Elections are a team effort," they said, "and we need and welcome any partners who are committed to ensuring free, fair, secure, and accurate elections." But let’s be real – X’s commitment to accuracy is about as genuine as its promises to make the world a better place.
So, the next time you’re tempted to use Grok, remember: this is a company that will stop at nothing to manipulate the truth. And if you’re going to support X, you’re supporting the spread of misinformation and the erosion of our democratic values.
