Now, the best way to handle this would’ve been with immense kindness.
Is it weird to cry on a date? Yes, it is. But if you have empathy for that person, you could assume that they are going through a tough time in life, and that they still wanted to try and go on a date to see if things worked out. Haven’t you ever cried at an inopportune time? Didn’t you wish for grace during that moment? Come on, man.
That person is having a rough time, and all you have to do is say something like, “It was lovely to meet you, but I don’t think we’re a match for each other. I wish you all the best in your future dating endeavors!” Then never speak to her again. Let her figure out her own issues with people around her who actually care about her wellbeing.
But this guy. This guy! He chose the most obnoxious, patronizing, condescending way to tell this woman that he didn’t want to go on a second date with her.
However. What’s most delicious here has been watching the internet absolutely dog-pile onto this fellow, scolding him for his unkind therapy-speak toward someone who probably needed a hug more than an uncalled-for assessment of her mental state.
