Sure, the circumstances of this incident are amusing in theory, but in practice, it’s no laughing matter. Maintaining a level of professionalism during such an awkward, extended moment must have been excruciating, and it inevitably hurt the otherwise qualified candidate’s chances here. 

Of course, it should not have had any effect on his likelihood of landing the position whatsoever, but in this case, it did. The terribly inappropriate HR manager would be the primary reason for that.
