The Bizarre Injustice of “Beyond Good & Evil” Rebooting Before “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time”

For far too long, the gaming community has suffered from a grave injustice – Ubisoft’s cult classic, “Beyond Good & Evil”, will receive a reboot before its once-promised sequel, “Beyond Good & Evil 2”. Yes, you read that right – just a mere 20 years after its initial release, “Beyond Good & Evil” will be remastered, but its long-overdue sequel remains stuck in “development hell” for 15 long years. This is a slap in the face to the devoted fans who have been begging for more.

What’s even more astonishing is that Ubisoft’s marketing department seems to be celebrating the 20th anniversary of “Beyond Good & Evil” with a reboot rather than announcing the revival of its once-mourned sequel. It’s almost as if Ubisoft is rubbing salt into the wounds of its faithful followers. And to add insult to injury, they’re boasting about a “reorchestrated soundtrack”, a “rebalanced game world”, and even autosave and cross-save features. What’s next, a re-release of “Assassin’s Creed” before the promised reboot of “Skull & Bones”?

The camera is still the most powerful tool in the reboot – because, let’s be honest, who needs actual gameplay innovation when you can polish up an already-established franchise?

When you thought it was time for some much-needed change and evolution, Ubisoft is serving up the same ol’ thing – a reboot instead of innovation. It’s time for a new era of gaming to shake off these outdated tactics and make some actual progress.
