In October 2016, Kim Kardashian was robbed at gunpoint by a group of men who broke into her Paris hotel room in the early hours of the morning. The masked intruders stole millions of dollars’ worth of jewelry, including her engagement ring, and Kim has described the attack as “seven or eight minutes of torture.”
Despite how deeply traumatic it was for Kim, there are a lot people out there who have publicly accused her of faking the incident — and it sounds like Kanye West was one of them.
“My ex-husband had said, ‘And you faked your robbery for a TV show,’ and had said that in front of all these people,” Kim said in the latest episode of The Kardashians. “That was a knife to my heart.”
“Just to think that someone wouldn’t believe you — that’s so close to you, that should know you, that should know how much that affected your life — it just really bothered me,” she went on, getting visibly emotional. “You don’t know who I am.”
Kim didn’t specify exactly when this happened, but she and Kanye were married at the time of the robbery. Notably, Kanye was on tour and halted a New York City show midway through his set upon learning of the “family emergency” that had taken place overseas.
In case there was still any doubt, Kim’s robbery was definitely no hoax. In May this year, she testified in a Paris court for six hours. “To finally go to trial and face these people and hear their accounts and apologies, I’m like, ‘See, guys, it was real,’” Kim said through tears in her Kardashians confessional. “I’m happy it’s over.”
Reflecting on her mindset going into the courtroom, Kim said, “I’m just not nervous. This was less than ten minutes of my life. I’ve lived an amazing life. That’s always given me a little bit of peace, just to know — what was it? Eight, nine minutes? — of pure terror and panic aren’t going to ruin me.”
You can watch the full episode of The Kardashians on Hulu in the US or Disney+ internationally. The next episode will drop on December 11.
