Killer Ride: How Taxify is Waging War on the Ride-Sharing Giant

The Dark Horse of Ride-Hailing: Secure Express Takes on Uber

In a bold move, a Johannesburg-based company is challenging the dominance of ride-hailing giant Uber, offering a safer and more comfortable alternative to its customers. Secure Express, a subsidiary of Arcfyre International, is making waves in the industry with its unique approach to ride-hailing.

A Safer Ride

Secure Express is "very different" from other e-hailing businesses, according to its head, Glenn Howell. The company owns its fleet of vehicles and employs its own drivers, eliminating the need for drivers to accept or decline rides based on profit margins. This approach ensures that drivers are not incentivized to prioritize their own earnings over the safety and comfort of their passengers.

Selective Hiring

The company is "very selective" when it comes to hiring drivers, rejecting nine out of ten applicants. Every employed driver undergoes a rigorous training program, which includes first aid, advanced driving, and customer service skills. Drivers are then assigned a Toyota Corolla from the Secure Express fleet.

Real-Time Tracking

Secure Express uses a dedicated command center in Johannesburg to track vehicle locations in real-time. If a ride deviates from its pre-assigned route, customer support is instantly alerted, and the team can activate in-vehicle cameras to assess the situation and react accordingly.

Comfort and Convenience

The company prioritizes customer service and rider comfort, offering free Wi-Fi in each vehicle and a more personalized experience. Drivers are trained to deal with high-risk situations, such as vehicle hijackings, and are not armed on the road.

Expansion Plans

Although currently only available in Johannesburg, Secure Express has plans to launch its service in Cape Town soon, with other cities to follow. The company charges a flat rate of R15/km, with no waiting-time fees.

A Threat to Uber’s Dominance?

Secure Express’s unique approach to ride-hailing may pose a significant threat to Uber’s dominance in the market. With its focus on safety, comfort, and customer service, the company may attract a loyal customer base willing to pay a premium for a more reliable and secure ride-hailing experience.

The Battle for Supremacy

The ride-hailing market is heating up, with Secure Express joining the fray. As the battle for supremacy intensifies, consumers may find themselves with more options than ever before. Will Secure Express’s innovative approach be enough to topple Uber’s reign? Only time will tell.
