‘Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Trailer Brings Westeros Humor

Finally, a Game of Thrones spin-off for those with a goofier side to them. HBO is taking a break from the gore and war that happened in House of the Dragon years before and reminding us that Westeros deserves a laugh or two from an unlikely hero. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, based on George R.R. Martin’s novellas Tales of Dunk and Egg, just dropped its final trailer, where we meet Ser Duncan the Tall, a.k.a. Dunk (Peter Claffey), a farmer and former squire who dreams of being a knight, even if he can’t find his way around a castle.

After the death of his mentor, Ser Arlan of Pennytree, Dunk travels to Westeros to compete in the tourney and even finds his own squire, a boy he met on his journey named Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell). “If I could call myself a champion, some great house might take me into its service,” Dunk says. “Perhaps even House Targaryen.” Like clockwork, the moment the Iron Throne, holding Targaryens, enters the picture, things get pretty dark — until Ser Duncan the Tall reminds us he’s still just Dunk. “Was that ill-handled?” he asks Egg after failing to rile up a crowd post-battle. “Right, yeah.” The first episode of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms premieres on HBO and HBO Max on Sunday, January 18, at 10 p.m., with new episodes dropping weekly. Follow along.
