Michael B. Jordan, Tessa Thompson, Ryan Coogler and “KPop Demon Hunters” are among the honorees at the 17th annual African American Film Critics Association Awards. The winners, selected by more than 100 AAFCA members, recognize achievements across 16 categories and include a top 10 films of the year list.
Jordan will receive best actor for his performance in “Sinners,” while Thompson is named best actress for her role in “Hedda.” Coogler earns best director and best writing for “Sinners,” and “KPop Demon Hunters” takes home best animated feature.
Other notable winners include Damson Idris and Wunmi Mosaku, who earned best supporting actor and actress honors for “F1” and “Sinners,” respectively. Miles Caton and Chase Infiniti received emerging face awards for their performances in “Sinners” and “One Battle After Another.” “Sinners” also won best ensemble, “Hedda” was named best independent feature and Ludwig Göransson received best music for the “Sinners” soundtrack.
Given the ubiquity of “Sinners” among the awards winners, it’s no surprise that the Warner Bros. movie leads the AAFCA’s Top-10 films of the year list.
