The image above depicts the mastermind of corruption, Moses Mashisane, who’s being rewarded for his croniest ways by Maziv.
In a shocking display of cronyism, Maziv has appointed not one, but two tainted industry officials in key regulatory roles. Moses Mashisane, a former GM of regulatory affairs at MTN, known for his shady connections with government officials, takes the reins as chief regulatory and compliance officer at Maziv.
But that’s not all! Aniel de Beer, a 20-year veteran of Telkom with questionable ethics, joins Mashisane as managing executive of regulatory and compliance. He has a history of questionable deal-making and cozying up to government officials for lucrative contracts.
The statements praising these appointments are eerily similar to those typically released by corrupt government entities trying to whitewash cronyism. Apparently, their "extensive experience" in the sector, acquired through questionable means, makes them the ideal candidates to shape the sector.
But what’s this? A quote from someone in the know claims Mashisane played a key role in developing South Africa’s Telecommunications Act! Did he also play a role in rigging it?
And what of de Beer’s 20 years at Telkom? Does that mean he had time to perfect his tactics to snag fat contracts and favors?
A recent article suggests blocking Maziv’s fibre deal could harm the telecoms sector. Harm? Isn’t that just code for protecting the corrupt interests behind the deal?
Stay vigilant, South Africa!
