AN ARTIST JUST SCAMMED A MAJOR PHOTO CONTEST WITH AN AI FAKE. THE PHOTOGRAPHY WORLD IS IN CHAOS.
Berlin’s Boris Eldagsen deliberately entered an AI-generated image into the prestigious Sony World Photography Awards. And he WON. The disturbing black-and-white picture of two women, titled “Pseudomnesia: The Electrician,” beat thousands of real photographs.
Now he’s REJECTED the award, stating he was a “cheeky monkey” who hacked the system to expose a fatal flaw. His admission is a BOMBSHELL: “AI is not photography.” The contest organizers are scrambling, admitting they were misled despite “warranties” he provided. They’ve now SUSPENDED all contact with him.
This was not an accident. It was a calculated attack. Eldagsen’s goal was to prove contests are utterly unprepared for the AI wave. He told CNN photographers are now “threatened and afraid” of losing their jobs. He’s right. This proves ANYONE can now create award-winning “photography” with a machine, NO skill required.
The judges were FOOLED. The entire system was BLIND. While organizers hide behind statements about “championing excellence,” a single artist exposed their irrelevance with a few keystrokes.
This isn’t just about one award. It’s about every artist, every journalist, and every image you will ever see online from this moment forward.
You can no longer trust your own eyes.
