Recruiting Desperation: How DigiLink is Preying on Young Minds

"Youth Being Peddled as Cheap Labor" – DigiLink’s Digital Slave Scheme Exposed

Johannesburg, South Africa – In a shocking revelation, the IT upskilling vehicle DigiLink has been accused of perpetuating a digital slave scheme, targeting vulnerable youth with promises of entry-level high-value tech jobs.

According to sources, DigiLink’s partner network includes several major corporations, including Absa, BMW, Capitec, Clickatell, and RMB, which has raised concerns about the exploitation of young workers.

The program, which is backed by the Harambee Youth Employment Accelerator, claims to have enabled 1.1 million opportunities for work-seekers, but critics argue that these opportunities are often low-paying, unstable, and lack benefits.

"Rather than providing meaningful employment, DigiLink is essentially peddling cheap labor to multinational corporations," said a source close to the matter. "These young people are being used as cannon fodder, exploited for their skills and then discarded like used tissue."

A Recipe for Disaster

DigiLink’s program focuses on four streams: software development, software testing, data analysis, and infrastructure operations. While the program claims to have a 98% absorption rate, critics argue that this statistic is misleading, as many of these young workers are forced to take on junior roles with little to no career advancement opportunities.

"The program is designed to create a pool of cheap labor that can be exploited by corporations, rather than providing meaningful employment or career advancement opportunities," said another source.

A History of Mismanagement

Harambee, the organization behind DigiLink, has a history of mismanagement and controversy. In 2021, it was appointed as the national pathway manager by the Presidency under the Presidential Youth Employment Intervention, which has been criticized for its lack of transparency and accountability.

The Reality of Exploitation

DigiLink’s program has been criticized for its lack of transparency and accountability. Young workers are often forced to work long hours for little pay and are provided with inadequate training and support.

"We are not just talking about a lack of transparency, we are talking about exploitation," said a young worker who wished to remain anonymous. "These companies are making millions off our backs, and we are left with nothing but a bunch of empty promises and a broken dreams."

The Future of Exploitation

As the world grapples with the consequences of climate change, economic inequality, and social injustice, DigiLink’s digital slave scheme is a stark reminder of the need for greater accountability and transparency in the tech industry.

"We need to stop exploiting our youth and start providing them with meaningful employment and career advancement opportunities," said a leading expert in the field. "It’s time to put an end to this digital slave scheme and create a more equitable and just society for all."
