Thankfully, this guy had been working at the company long enough to know that he wasn’t violating any sort of serious policy here. Besides, his daughter’s brief appearance during the work call was, well, brief! He told her kindly to go back to her room and apologized to everyone on the call before they went back to business. It seems like the whole interruption took no more than 30 seconds.
These facts are what have led the employee to believe that he is being punished for a 30-second misunderstanding. Moreover, the punishment doesn’t exactly fit the so-called “crime.” Being asked to make a radical change to his working lifestyle, all because of this minor moment, just proves our suspicions that this is largely about power and authority.
