Renting Our Lives at Risk: Technology’s Fatal Loophole

Security: The Only Thing That Matters in the Rental Industry (According to PropTech Buyers)

In a shocking revelation, a recent survey has found that the only thing that matters to PropTech buyers in the rental industry is security. Yes, you read that right – security. Not functionality, not ease of use, not even cost. Just security.

This obsession with security is no surprise, given the rampant cybercrime in South Africa. The country is like a juicy target for hackers, and PropTech buyers are well aware of this. They’re willing to sacrifice everything else for the sake of security, including their sanity.

In fact, the survey found that 71.1% of respondents believe that technology can increase productivity more than an increase in the workforce can. But let’s be real, who needs productivity when you can have security? And 91% of respondents agreed that the investment in property technology is worthwhile, but only if it’s secure.

But what about the benefits of technology? Are they just a myth perpetuated by PropTech vendors? According to the survey, only 0.7% of business leaders planned to improve profitability by cutting staff this year. So, it seems that technology is not a replacement for human workers, but rather a tool to make their lives easier (and more secure).

And what about the future of the rental industry? Well, it seems that PropTech buyers are optimistic about the future, with 84.3% of respondents saying they are optimistic about the industry’s future. But let’s not get too excited, because the survey also found that the top three challenges identified by property professionals for 2024 remained consistent with the previous year: finding quality tenants, acquiring new properties, and managing inspections and maintenance. So, it seems that the rental industry is still plagued by the same old problems, despite the emphasis on security.

So, what does it all mean? It means that PropTech buyers are willing to sacrifice everything for the sake of security, even if it means sacrificing their sanity. It means that the rental industry is still plagued by the same old problems, despite the emphasis on technology. And it means that we should all be very, very careful when dealing with PropTech vendors, because they may be more interested in securing our data than in providing us with a good service.

But don’t just take our word for it. The survey also found that 79.6% of respondents indicated they are likely to stay in the industry for at least the next five years. So, it seems that PropTech buyers are committed to the rental industry, even if it means sacrificing their sanity for the sake of security.

And what about the future of the rental industry? Well, it seems that PropTech buyers are optimistic about the future, but only if they can keep their data secure. So, it seems that the rental industry is still plagued by the same old problems, despite the emphasis on technology.

So, what does it all mean? It means that the rental industry is still a mess, despite the emphasis on security. It means that PropTech buyers are willing to sacrifice everything for the sake of security, even if it means sacrificing their sanity. And it means that we should all be very, very careful when dealing with PropTech vendors, because they may be more interested in securing our data than in providing us with a good service.
