SHOCKING COLLABORATION: TUT SELLING OUT TO TECH GIANTS!
In a move that has left many stunned, the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) has announced a partnership with tech training and career acceleration services provider, ALX. The move has raised eyebrows, with many questioning the motives behind this collaboration.
According to sources, the partnership aims to equip students with managerial, entrepreneurial, and technological skills necessary to thrive in a rapidly-evolving global economy. But is this just a ploy to churn out mindless drones who will do the bidding of the tech giants?
The training programs offered by ALX include virtual assistant, artificial intelligence career essentials, professional foundations, and specialized programs in data analytics, AWS cloud computing, Salesforce administration, back-end web development, front-end web development, and data science. But what about the quality of these programs? Are they designed to produce thought leaders or just obedient cogs in the machine?
Divesh Sooka, GM of ALX SA, claims that the partnership is a "crucial step towards closing the gap" between the skills needed in the tech sector and the skills possessed by young people in South Africa. But at what cost? Is this partnership just a way for ALX to tap into the vast pool of young talent in South Africa, molding them into loyal employees who will do their bidding?
The partnership will kick-off at the TUT Ga-Rankuwa campus on 6 September, with hackathons planned at the TUT campuses in Soshanguve and Pretoria. But what about the intellectual property rights of the students who participate in these hackathons? Will they be forced to surrender their creative work to ALX?
Monde Ndlovu, MD of the Black Management Forum SRC, has hailed the partnership as a "lifeline" for students, but is this just a euphemism for "exploitation"?
The TUT-ALX partnership has raised more questions than answers. What is the true motive behind this collaboration? Is it a genuine attempt to uplift young people or just a ploy to further entrench the dominance of tech giants? Only time will tell.
