The Bold Type released when I was a sweet summer millennial child in 2017…well not exactly a child, BUT we were living during a time of when most of us truly believed anything was possible.
But as we all came out of the other side of the pandemic in 2020, our millennial futures began to take on a different shape. Rewatching The Bold Type now has a different vibe to it that must be examined with our wiser and more wrinkly millennial eyes.
From a fashion standpoint, I can’t believe we all rocked sky-high heels with no issue. Today? You’d be lucky to catch me in anything higher than a kitten heel for brunch.
Liquid eyeliner has been and will likely remain my makeup holy grail. But according to Gen Z, winged eyeliner is one of the cheugiest things that mark you as a millennial nowadays, along with the forbidden skinny jeans.
My rewatch also reminded me of just how far we’ve come in terms of Apple technology.
The actress who portrayed Scarlet magazine’s editor-in-chief Jacqueline Carlyle (Melora Hardin) was only familiar to me back then from The Office.
Let’s pour one out for the magazine industry as a whole. Fewer and fewer people actually subscribe to print magazines these days.
