The compliment-to-insult pipeline moves faster than a toddler’s mood after nap time gets skipped. One minute you’re a genius, the next you’re lazy, greedy, and somehow bad at your job, all triggered by the same two-letter word. It’s less an opinion changing and more a mask falling off.

Then the messages start coming in, and none of them are actually about the original problem anymore. It’s just insults thrown at a wall to see which one sticks, half of them contradicting each other, like someone screaming both “you’re overpaid” and “you clearly don’t need money” in the same breath.

Holding the line anyway is the whole game. Cave once and you’ve just trained everyone that your limits are negotiable if they push hard enough. Hold it and you get to keep doing the job in five years instead of quietly hating it
