Snap Launches AI-Generated Augmented Reality Revolution

The AI Revolution is Coming: Snap’s New Tech Will Upend the AR Landscape

At the Augmented World Expo, Snap dropped a bombshell: an early version of its real-time, on-device image diffusion model that can generate vivid AR experiences. But that’s not all – the company also unveiled generative AI tools that will make AR creators’ jobs obsolete.

Snap’s co-founder and CTO, Bobby Murphy, took the stage to reveal the model, which is small enough to run on a smartphone and fast enough to re-render frames in real-time, guided by a text prompt. But don’t be fooled – this technology is not just about creating cool AR effects. It’s about fundamentally changing the way we interact with the world.

Murphy warned that the emergence of generative AI image diffusion models has been exciting, but they need to be significantly faster to be impactful for augmented reality. And that’s exactly what Snap’s teams have been working on – accelerating machine learning models to make them faster and more powerful.

But what does this mean for AR creators? According to Murphy, they’ll be replaced by AI-powered tools that can generate AR effects in minutes, not weeks or months. And what about the jobs of the thousands of developers who have been working on AR projects? Will they be left behind as AI takes over?

Snapchat users will start to see Lenses with this generative model in the coming months, and the company plans to bring it to creators by the end of the year. But will they be ready for the revolution that’s coming?

The Future of AR: AI-Powered and Unstoppable

As Snap’s new technology takes off, we’ll see a new era of AR experiences that are more realistic, more immersive, and more powerful than ever before. But will humans still have a place in this new world? Or will AI take over, leaving us to wonder what happened to the creativity and innovation that once defined our species?

One thing is certain – the future of AR is here, and it’s not going to be pretty.
