FOR 17 YEARS, THEY HAVE BEEN FORGOTTEN. A shocking new investigation reveals hundreds of men, women, and children in the Eastern Cape are living in a NIGHTMARE, forced to drink water shared with cattle while officials look the other way.
Photos from the scene show the brutal truth: a vandalized, empty storeroom where a vital generator once stood. The water is RIGHT THERE in the borehole, but the people cannot reach it. They must now trek over a kilometer across hills, hauling buckets from a filthy river.
“We are sharing dirty water with animals,” says resident Yandisa Mtshoqolwana, her plea ignored for nearly two decades. The crisis has CRIPPLED the community. Farmer Mphuthani Miya explains they can no longer grow food. “I’m old and crippled… I depend on my grandchildren to fetch me water.”
Officials offer excuses, blame vandalism, and promise projects that never finish. Ward councillor Bongani Nokhele admits the councilor is “never available.” The municipality claims a generator was STOLEN, but villagers SWEAR they saw officials take it away in a municipal truck.
This is more than a broken promise. It is a deliberate betrayal. While people suffer, a so-called “treatment works” project flounders in delays. The spokesperson admits they can only guarantee water for one thing: FUNERALS.
They have been waiting since 2009. They will be waiting tomorrow. And the only thing flowing freely are the LIES from those in power.
One question burns: How many children must get sick before someone in charge finally CARES?
