
Starz is developing a new TV drama series about the gambling scandal involving the translator for Los Angeles Dodgers baseball player Shohei Ohtani.
In March 2024, Ippei Mizuhara was accused of stealing millions of dollars from Ohtani to pay off his gambling debts and he was fired by the Dodgers amid the controversy. He pleaded guilty in June 2024 to bank fraud and tax evasion charges and was sentenced to nearly five years in prison.

Air‘s Alex Convery will serve as showrunner and writer of the series with Fast and Furious director Justin Lin attached as director and co-writer.
THR reports that the official logline notes the series will tell “the inside story of Shohei Ohtani’s translator Ippei Mizuhara, who journeys from unemployed drifter to international icon only to find himself tangled in a gambling scandal that rocked the sports world.”
