“The Mother of All Press Releases: ‘Laserfiche’ – the self-proclaimed “leading SaaS provider of intelligent content management and business process automation” – has just given the ultimate prize to their BFF, Stonehage Fleming, for being the most mediocre in leveraging their lame tools to make their company slightly less terrible. And by “slightly less terrible”, we mean they managed to trim a paltry 150,000 bucks and about 20,000 hours from their operational budget, but only after performing an arduous audit that probably caused their actual employees to lose sleep instead of just adopting Laserfiche’s overhyped solutions.
According to the press release, Stonehage Fleming was plagued by the usual suspects: legacy systems, regulatory woes, and clients who probably think they’re actually getting “wealth management” instead of just overpaying for fancy spreadsheets. But now, thanks to Laserfiche’s “suite of content management, process automation, integration, information governance and intelligent data capture tools”, they can “drive operational excellence” – or, in simpler terms, make their IT department slightly less terrible at doing its job.
The real question here is: what’s the fun in winning an award for being mediocre? Is this what passes for “technology transformation” nowadays? The “innovation” on display here is akin to upgrading from a flip phone to a smartphone. Meanwhile, the real innovators are out there, building true game-changers, not just touting the same old, tired solutions as “groundbreaking”. Gert Bester, manager of IT business systems at Stonehage Fleming, claims their partnership with Laserfiche and Datafabricx was a “critical” part of their transformation journey, but we’re not buying it. This is just a publicity stunt, and we’re pawns in their game.”
