Get ready to battle in the alleyways, because the Street Fighter cast looks unmissable. The upcoming video-game adaptation debuted its first trailer on December 12, set to “Punk Tactics,” by Joey Valence & Brae. Ryu (Bullet Train star Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before’s Noah Centineo) are recruited by Chun-Li (The Presence star Callina Liang) to fight in the World Warrior Tournament, per Paramount. There, they’ll face off against a variety of fighters while, behind the scenes, there is a “deadly conspiracy.” In time with the beat, competitors are introduced with flashy character design and even flashier MMA moves.
Translation: This movie is designed to give audiences a chance to get a look at as many cool fighters as possible. Two DCU vets will compete: A-lister Jason Momoa is Blanka and David Dastmalchian (The Suicide Squad) is playing M. Bison. They’re cast alongside four other entertainers — singer Orville Peck as Vega, rapper 50 Cent as Balrog, jack of all trades Eric André as Don Sauvage, and comedian Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki. Outside Hollywood, the film will feature real-life MMA fighter Alexander Volkanovski as Joe, the WWE’s Roman Reigns as Akuma, and Cody Rhodes as Guile and New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s Hirooki Goto as E. Honda. Finally, the rest of the roles are filled out by a laundry list of international action stars, with Mortal Kombat’s Mel Jarnson as Cammy, Indian martial-arts film star Vidyut Jammwal as Dhalsim, Dutch bodybuilder Olivier Richters (Black Widow) as Zangief, and Cobra Kai star Rayna Vallandingham as Juli. Nineties kids, you are so back.
