While this stranger’s mentality certainly surprised me at first, when you really think about it, this guy is probably not the only person who would turn down such a generous offer. After all, people don’t like to be thrown off guard. If you have made peace with the fact that you’re going to be in the middle seat for the next few hours and it’s not that big of a deal to you, it might be hard to even consider the offer that was on the table here. 

Sure, the stranger said that they wanted to stay seated near their friends, but still, it’s also possible that they simply did not have the mental bandwidth to switch things up now that they had boarded the plane. I’m not saying I agree with this mentality, but I am saying that I understand the stranger’s inability to fully comprehend that their flight experience could have been much better had they accepted the offer. It’s like they were so hyper-focused that all logic went out the window. Oh, how foolish people can be!
