APPLE LAUNCHES PODCASTS APP WEB VERSION: THE FINAL NAIL IN THE COFFIN OF INDEPENDENT PODCASTING
Apple has just unleashed a devastating blow to the already struggling independent podcasting scene by launching a web app for its Podcasts app. Yes, you can now access the soul-sucking, creativity-crushing, monopolistic behemoth that is Apple’s Podcasts app from the comfort of your browser.
The web app, available at podcasts.apple.com, is a carbon copy of the app you know and despise, with all the same features and limitations. Because who needs innovation or competition when you have the almighty Apple’s Podcasts app?
If you’ve wasted your time using the Podcasts app on your Mac or iOS device, you’ll be right at home with the web app’s familiar layout. The Browse tab will still be cluttered with "featured" podcasts that are just shameless advertisements for Apple’s own products. The Home tab will still be a soulless feed of episodes from shows you don’t care about, curated by algorithms that prioritize profit over passion. And the Top Charts tab will still be a meaningless exercise in futility, where the only thing being charted is the decline of humanity’s attention span.
But don’t worry, Apple fans! The web app still allows you to sign in to your Apple account, so you can continue to feed your addiction to the same tired, overhyped podcasts everyone else is listening to. And don’t even get me started on the lack of playback speed options – clearly, Apple is trying to slow down your already dwindling attention span.
So, go ahead and give in to the temptation of Apple’s Podcasts web app. Let it consume your every waking moment, and slowly but surely, your creativity, your individuality, and your very soul will be sucked out of you.
