There’s nothing like getting hooked on a great TV show. Until, of course, you find yourself seven character deaths and four plot twists deep, thinking, “This definitely didn’t need another season.” Whether it was dragged-out storylines, cast changes, bizarre character arcs, or plots that made no sense by the series finale, there’s a whole category of shows that have fans wishing they’d wrapped things up wayyy sooner.
So when we asked the Buzzfeed Community to tell us about those shows that went on seasons past their expiration date, the answers did not disappoint. Here are 14 of the most popular responses:
1.
“Grey’s Anatomy. Seriously, how many tragedies can happen to one hospital? Past the main crew, the show sucked and just kept sucking. It became background noise very fast.”
2.
“My absolute favorite show is Lost. However, the last season was trash. I still can’t watch those episodes.”
5.
“Dexter should’ve been a three-season show. It became ridiculous.”
6.
“My Little Pony. They should have left it at when she became an alicorn, and don’t even get me started on the new movie.”
7.
“The Walking Dead. Loved the show until Season 8. I understand it was based on the graphic novel, but as a show, it never lived up to its potential. Negan should have died wrapping up the series. All the spinoffs have also been meh.”
8.
“I think we all agree to pretend that the final Scrubs season didn’t happen.”
9.
“Once Upon a Time. Bless its heart, but it should’ve ended at least two seasons before it actually did. I even sat through the Alice in Wonderland spinoff season (honestly, it wasn’t terrible), but once they decided to age up Henry with his own kid and made him forget everything from the last season…it was time to change the channel.”
10.
“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia stopped being funny many years ago. The writers are all rich, out-of-touch white men who just can’t figure out how to be funny without being offensive. They just need to face the facts and call it a day.”
11.
“The Office after Steve Carell left. They had a string of just terrible plot lines (e.g., Nellie stealing Andy’s job, Jim and Pam’s marital issues, Andy becoming an unlikeable jerk).”
12.
“Stranger Things is dragging on for sooo long. What do you mean Season 5 is coming at the end of November, but they’re splitting it up???”
13.
“The Simpsons. Don’t get me wrong, I still love the show, but the quality of the episodes these days is lacking compared to the first 13-14 seasons, where all the iconic episodes reside. Very few episodes post-Season 20, if any, are actually memorable.”
14.
“Big Bang Theory should have ended after seven seasons.”
