This workplace is full of drama, and it’s largely due to a single employee.
Countless workplaces operate like this: most of the people are relatively normal, but there’s one drama queen or king who everyone has to walk on eggshells around.
In this worker’s case, the drama queen seemed to be trying to insert herself into every meeting. She couldn’t actually make it to every meeting though, so she’d insist that her coworkers abide by her schedule so she could attend. This just threw a wrench in things! And I just cannot fathom why she’d want to attend more meetings than she had to? Meetings are important, sure. But if you have more than like, 10 people attending, you probably are just going to listen to your boss yap for 90 minutes without contributing much. In which case, you could break out that old (very accurate) phrase: this meeting could’ve been an email!
Anyone trying to insert themselves into a meeting they don’t belong in is in for an awkward time… Not to mention that meetings are much-maligned because they really do interrupt workflow. You often have to prepare for them by gathering certain data points or prepping reflections on your latest work. If you’re just joining meetings for the fun of it… I don’t really know why you’d be doing so! You’ll have less time for your own work while inserting yourself into team dynamics whic don’t gain any benefits from your presence.
However, this person is a little more than just a wacky gal who wants to be involved in everything. She actually left the current workplace, but she’s continually emailing her former coworker to ask for help. I just have no idea why she would think that’s an appropriate thing to do. Not to mention that doing so could easily break a company’s privacy or security directives! Both workers’ jobs could be on the line, and they seem oblivious to that fact.
The person writing this post, and the subsequent update, would be justified in never answering her emails. Or, they could reply kindly to say something like, “I wouldn’t be able to answer this question for so-and-so company due to my current role with this workplace. Best wishes!” Just shut that down ASAP so that neither worker messes with their job. Another option would be to forward the message to the boss — possibly even HR! — to alert management about this wacky series of events.
Check out the full story below, then take a deep breath when you read the update! This person made the smart move to skip along to the next workplace, which hopefully holds a lot less drama anda lot less focus on a single person’s mood. Teamwork makes the dreamwork, you know? If you’re always just trying to tamp down one person’s explosive emotions, you’re just wasting your precious 40-hour workweek.
