What would you do if a random family member texted you with a list of 5 demands they have for staying at your house? That’s what this person is dealing with when their totally delulu sister-in-law messaged them out of the blue.

Staying at someone else’s home, even a family member’s place, requires a decent amount of planning. The host has to wash sheets and blankets, make beds, clean bathrooms, buy extra food, make sure they have enough dishes for everyone. And once the guest is there, it’s polite to help out with that extra cooking and cleaning as a sign of gratitude towards the host. Even when it’s your family, it’s pretty common to abide by these rules, right? That’s why it’s so odd — and amusing to the rest of us reading the tale — that this person’s sister-in-law decided to text out of the blue with 5 demands for her visit.

A few caveats. The sister-in-law is not invited. She isn’t even welcome! She’s been in a no-contact situation with this person for over a year, yet suddenly, she announces that she’s visiting next Saturday. She’d also like her bedding to be washed in a specific detergent, and she “needs” a king or queen size bed because “I need a lot of room when I sleep.” Uh… okay then…

Not to mention that the SIL wants to visit on this person’s birthday! She wants to move the birthday celebrations around in order to accommodate her visit. Like I said, totally delulu behavior!

Commenters urged this person to act like they didn’t know which number was messaging them in the first place. I mean, if you’re no-contact with someone for an entire year and then they suddenly message to see if they can stay with you, I think the automatic reaction is one of confusion. A message replying something like, “Hey, I think you meant to send this to someone else,” might be effective. It lets that person know that you’re confused and you’re not going to put up with any ridiculousness.

This person didn’t choose to go that route, but you can check out the absolute insanity down below, as well as their update when this hapless traveler SIL finally replied. Hope the SIL has plans to get a hotel or Airbnb instead, because she’s certainly not staying with family!
