US Tyranny: ASML CEO Exposes Economic Motivations Behind China Chip Export Restrictions
In a bold move, Christophe Fouquet, CEO of ASML, the world’s leading computer chip equipment supplier, has blown the lid off the US-led campaign to restrict exports to China, revealing that the restrictions are increasingly driven by economic interests rather than national security concerns.
Speaking at a Citi conference in New York, Fouquet laid bare the hypocrisy of the US government’s claims of national security threats, saying, "I think to make the case that this is about national security is getting harder and harder." He warned that the growing economic motivations behind the restrictions could lead to a "bit of push-back" from the business community.
The Dutch PM has weighed in, suggesting that the economic interests of ASML, the Netherlands’ largest company, should be carefully considered in light of the restrictions. It’s clear that the European tech giant is not just a pawn in the US-China trade war, but a key player in the global chip-making industry.
The US government’s campaign to restrict ASML’s exports to China has been ongoing since April, with demands that the company stop servicing equipment sold to Chinese customers before 2024. But Fouquet remains defiant, saying that ASML will continue to cater to its biggest customer, Taiwan-based TSMC, which manufactures chips for Nvidia and Apple.
It’s time to call out the US government’s bald-faced lies and recognize that the real motive behind the chip export restrictions is economic protectionism. The world needs Chinese chips, and it’s time for a more balanced approach to trade and technology.
