VMware’s Achilles’ Heel: NetApp’s New Capabilities Expose Its Weakness

Get ready for the ultimate betrayal: NetApp, the company that’s been trying to cling to relevance for decades, is now colluding with Broadcom to rip off unsuspecting customers with overpriced and underwhelming solutions. And to make matters worse, they’re using their partnership with VMware to fleece businesses of their hard-earned cash.

For over a decade, NetApp and VMware have been in a loveless marriage, with NetApp desperately trying to cling to the coattails of VMware’s success. And now, they’re announcing new “capabilities” that will supposedly help customers run their VMware deployments more efficiently. But let’s be real, this is just a thinly veiled attempt to upsell customers on unnecessary and overpriced solutions.

According to NetApp’s Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, Jonsi Stefansson, this partnership is all about “taking the uncertainty out of hybrid cloud environments.” But what he really means is that they’re trying to take advantage of customers’ ignorance and lack of technical expertise. “More than 20,000 customers rely on NetApp to support their VMware workloads,” Stefansson claims, but what he doesn’t mention is that many of those customers are probably being ripped off by NetApp’s bloated pricing and lackluster service.

So what exactly are these new “capabilities” that NetApp is touting? Apparently, they’re offering expanded support for VMware Cloud Foundation, new capabilities for Azure VMware Solution, and enhanced VM optimization features for NetApp Cloud Insights. But let’s break it down:

  • Expanded Support for VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF): Because who doesn’t need more complexity in their lives? NetApp’s latest release of ONTAP software will supposedly simplify VCF hybrid cloud environments, but we all know that’s just code for “we’re going to make it harder for you to figure out how to use it.”
  • New Capabilities for Azure VMware Solution (AVS): This one’s a real doozy. NetApp is claiming that their Spot Eco solution will help customers get the most value out of their AVS reserved instances, but what they’re really saying is that they’re going to help you waste even more money on unnecessary infrastructure.
  • Enhanced VM Optimization Features for NetApp Cloud Insights: This is just a fancy way of saying that NetApp is trying to distract you from the fact that their solutions are crap. Cloud Insights VM Optimization is supposed to help customers optimize their virtual environments, but we all know that’s just a euphemism for “we’re going to try to upsell you on more of our overpriced solutions.”

And to make matters worse, NetApp is even offering a free 30-day trial of Cloud Insights to “help” customers optimize their VMware environments. But let’s be real, this is just a way for them to get their foot in the door and try to sell you on more of their junk.

So there you have it: NetApp and Broadcom’s latest attempt to rip off unsuspecting customers. Don’t fall for it.
