ANOTHER ONE DEAD. The body of a 23-year-old Checkers Sixty60 rider lies on the R102 near Macassar. A Toyota smashed into him. Police are now investigating CULPABLE HOMICIDE.
This is not an accident. This is a SYSTEMATIC BLOODBATH.
It’s the second rider killed in months. Remember the one who died in a head-on collision with a SAPS VAN in Bellville? Then, weeks later, another rider went viral for riding straight through a POLICE SHOOTOUT in Muizenberg. People laughed. They joked he had “sixty lives.”
BUT THE JOKE IS OVER. THESE MEN ARE DYING FOR YOUR GROCERIES.
Our roads have become a deadly racetrack. Riders are involved in SEVEN incidents EVERY SINGLE DAY. Why? The answer is simple: the “60-minute” promise. It’s a death sentence on wheels. These contractors—given minimal training, zero maintenance support, and desperate for low pay—are forced to SPEED, to SWERVE, to RISK EVERYTHING.
Checkers calls them “independent contractors.” It’s a convenient lie. It means the company washes its hands of responsibility while workers pay the ultimate price. Where is the REAL training? Where are the realistic delivery times? Where is the corporate accountability?
They are treated as disposable labour, sacrificed for the sacred promise of instant convenience. Every time you click “order,” the clock starts ticking on another potential tragedy.
How many more bodies will it take before someone at Checkers is held responsible?
