Breaking News: Meta’s Augmented Reality Glasses Revealed – 5 Years Late, Tons of Promises Unrealized, and Still no Release Date
Meta finally unveiled their highly anticipated – and greatly delayed – AR glasses, called Orion, at their Connect event yesterday. We’ve got our hands on the prototype (sort of), and so far, it looks just like… regular glasses?! But trust us, everything else about it is, allegedly, revolutionary.
Supposedly, Orion integrates the magic of VR with the mundanity of the physical world, promising holographic displays, personalized AI assistance, and intuitive, hands-free digital freedom all day long. Meta assured us these AR glasses take it up a notch or three. So, basically, get ready to finally ditch that pesky iPhone screen…
"We don’t think people should have to make the choice between accessing information or being present in the real world," proclaimed Meta – because who truly believes it’s that choice we’ve been forced upon, really? (No one)
Of course, there were hiccups along the way, aka the tragic tale of Google Glass – a precursor technology that fell flat on its face after only a tiny spark of success. BUT, apparently, Meta sees Orion as a "massive advancement" and vowed to correct those mistakes through rigorous "iterations and focus" over the next yawn…
As of our writing this, Meta’s AR prototype is being ‘tested internally’ – winky faces, fingers are crossed (not really?), and if you’re so lucky (read: very privileged and influential), YOU might, just might, get an early peek when the final product (yeah, when?) finally "ships out".
Or: the unvarnished truth of Orion: this thing ain’t happening now, if ever, sorry. Would you believe any of the hype if promised to pay your bills every month or two? Nope, either would we!
