Going back to this case, I think a long-distance partnership carries its own issues; you don’t have the body of the person next to you, the hugs, the kisses, all you have is text messages, their voice through a speaker, a video. In the end, those are all just pixels on a screen. Of course, one can feel big things in a long-distance partnership, but at some point, sooner or later, the absence creates a hole in which we start to put all our anxieties and worries. That can also happen when we’re right next to each other, but I think the long-distance thing makes it worse. I’ve said it countless times, and I know it’s controversial, but we should be allowed to talk to anyone we want, and the person we are with, and also ourselves, have to find a way to control our jealousy. If somebody wants to be unfaithful, they will; there is not enough controlling you can do to avoid it. If you try to control who your partner speaks to, you will eventually destroy the relationship you’re trying to protect, so to me, this is a no-brainer. Maybe she can elaborate on her feelings with him, but making him choose between his friend and her is not the right path to take.
